  •  Research comparable properties, checking prices with local estate agents
  •  Protect yourself by carrying out initial surveys
  •  Get the legals sorted early - it's better to be prepared
  •  Keep a level head - don’t let emotions or pressure alter your judgement
  •  Research into the local area for information on schools, shops, transport etc.
  •  Don’t rule out offering the full asking price, to avoid losing out to a rival bidder
  •  Ask as many questions as possible about the property
  •  Stay in regular contact with the agent to help speed the process along
