- View the house on multiple occasions to get a complete impression of the property
- Look beneath the surface for any work or renovation that needs to be carried out
- Research comparable properties, checking prices with local estate agents
- Protect yourself by carrying out initial surveys
- Get the legals sorted early - it's better to be prepared
- Keep a level head - don’t let emotions or pressure alter your judgement
- Research into the local area for information on schools, shops, transport etc.
- Don’t rule out offering the full asking price, to avoid losing out to a rival bidder
- Ask as many questions as possible about the property
- Stay in regular contact with the agent to help speed the process along
