Property owners that leave rubbish in their gardens could be subjected to a £2,500 fine.

According to the Daily Mail, the fine will be imposed on anyone that leaves sofas, fridges or pizza boxes cluttering their gardens on a repeated basis.

The New Community Protection Notice means that messy home owners can be given an on the spot fine of £100 and up to £2,500 if the case is taken to court. New Community Protection Notice has been designed to prevent gardens from becoming unsightly, downgrading entire streets.

Offending property owners will be given a warning of their behaviour as well as a period of time in which to clean up their garden. Failure to act upon the issue of a notice will mean the property owner is guilty of a criminal offence.

Theresa May commented in the Daily Mail that: 'The community trigger will give people, either individuals or local communities, the opportunity to say the point has come where the police are required to do something, look into it, investigate, find out what's happening and take action.'
