The government recently unveiled plans to bring 5,000 empty homes back into use as reported in the Guardian.
Communities Minister, Don Foster announced that some of a £300 million fund will be made available to local councils and housing associations to rejuvenate properties in rundown areas.

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has estimated that the properties will be ready in around three years.

Don Foster would like to further extend the scheme so that more of the one million empty homes in the UK can be used.
