The Government could be fined 10,000,000 GBP

21 October 2011

The British Government could be fined £10,000,000 because building owners are failing to produce Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).

According to the EU’s Energy Performance Directive and British law, an EPC must be produced when renting or selling a property. The EPC indicates how energy efficient a property is as well as providing ways to improve its performance.

Estate Agent Today has reported that it is believed to be worst in commercial buildings of which 80% could be without an EPC.

It is feared the European Court could fine the British Government via a daily penalty or a one lump sum of approximately £10,000,000.
