Steady March for UK housing market

14 April 2011

The latest figures from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has shown that the UK housing market remained flat for March.

As predicted by many, including Move with Us, the housing market continues to display slight increases and decreases, but no major upward or downward curve. This is supported by the latest Nationwide and Halifax house price indices, who reported a 0.5% rise and 0.6% decrease respectively.

The RICS findings showed that there continued to be lower sales levels compared with previous years, with demand still low due to restricted mortgage lending.

Ian Perry, RICS housing spokesman, commented: "The low level of buyer interest in many parts of the UK continues to impact on the market, resulting in some downward pressure on prices."

With Easter a matter of weeks away the housing market is hoping for a spring in the step of many buyers, who will be searching now in order to move in during the Summer months.
