Nearly a third of UK homeowners looking to move in 2011

17 February 2011

According to recent research* almost a third of people in the UK intend to move home during 2011. This is in stark contrast to 2008, where just 9% of those surveyed planned to move home.

The leap in movers is a positive sign for the housing market, and is indicative of the growing confidence that is returning. When the figure is broken down it reveals that the South East is the most keen area to move, with 40% living here looking to move. In comparison, only 22% of Scottish residents are planning to move during the year ahead.

The research also indicatd that home improvements are no longer on the agenda. 54% of those surveyed planned to extend their home in October 2008, and this figure has dropped to just 17%.

What is the reason people are deciding to move? 27% of the respondents stated that a dream home bargain would cause them to move, with 14% wanting to relocate and 10% expanding their family.
