JK Rowling has sold Merchiston house

28 November 2012

The Harry Potter author lived at Merchiston house in Edinburgh before moving elsewhere in the city. It took just three weeks to sell accepting offers of over £2.25 million.

The property features an office building, a landscaped and walled garden, summerhouse, several outhouses and a double garage with Victorian period features set in one of Edinburgh’s most exclusive areas.

James Whitson, Director of Rettie who sold the property said that: "This was an iconic house in Edinburgh and it was a privilege to be entrusted with its sale.”

"The fact we secured a buyer so quickly demonstrates that even in the most challenging of economic environments…when any property is correctly priced, in a prime location, it will attract significant interest and in most cases, a buyer."
