The causes of this timescale have been attributed to property owners tiring of aspects of their house that don’t function properly. This is often compounded by a greater awareness of properties for sale tied in with the rise of property browsing on the internet.

Younger home owners are thought to look to move much more quickly than older home owners with those aged between 25 and 34 looking to move on average after four years and five months. This figure increases to nine years and five months by the time home owners reach 55.
