Eric Pickles, Communities Secretary has unveiled that tax payers can choose to pay council tax in monthly instalments over 12 months instead of 10.

Having this additional choice means that the typical monthly payments for a band D property will be around £24 lower per month as reported on homemove.co.uk.

The government is also set to help local authorities in England to freeze council tax next year for the third year in a row. The government have set aside £450 million to help reach their target.

Moving forward, councils will also be able to publish information about Council Tax bills online removing their obligation to supply hard copies. Residents however will still have the right to request hard copies if they are required.
