Property owners pay more than the average wage to live near to a tube station.

Nationwide carried out the research showing that properties in London that are located within 500 metres of a tube station cost on average £27,000 (more than the average UK wage per annum) extra than properties that are premium 1,500 metres away.

The research also indicated that property nearest to stations on the circle line came with a higher premium with property near to the Metropolitan Line coming in at the cheaper end of the market.

Robert Gardner, Chief Economist at Nationwide noted on www.houseladder.co.uk that: "People are willing to pay a significant premium to be close to a station and suggests that this premium has increased relative to two years ago."
