New data taken from the Office of National Statistics’ (ONS) recent survey has shown 1.5 million people in the UK have a second home as reported in the guardian.co.uk. 189,000 of these properties were used as working addresses and 165 were holiday homes.

The data included second addresses that people use if they’re working away from home, are on holiday or during university breaks. The survey took into consideration rented properties but not buy-to-let properties that are not used.

A further 48,000 people have a second home in Scotland or Northern Ireland, while 821,000 have a second home abroad.

The research from the ONS showed that Cornwall is the most popular region for second homes in the UK, as 22,997 people have a second address there.
