Almost one third of homes are untidy for viewings

4 March 2014

A survey from Move with Us, conducted amongst over 100 independent estate agents, highlighted that almost a third of properties are untidy when potential buyers arrive for a viewing.
The results noted that nearly 30% of all properties are not tidy when viewers arrive to inspect property to buy. Further research has shown that 22% of potential home owners are also put off by a messy or cluttered property when searching for their next home.
It’s interesting to see that home owners are failing to carry out the most simple of tasks to help sell their home such as making sure it’s clean and tidy ahead of viewings.
Purchasing a property is one of the biggest transactions of someone’s life and potential buyers will want to think that the property has been looked after by its current owners. It’s in a seller’s best interest to show off their property’s best side to attract the maximum number of buyers. There are a few easy steps you can take to present your property at its full potential ready for marketing photos and viewings.

• De-clutter your property to maximise space

• De-personalise your home by removing family photos

• Consider redecorating and painting the property a neutral colour

• Light any dark corners with lamps and soft lighting

• Tidy the outside area to maximise kerb appeal

• Bake bread or put on a pot of fresh coffee to give a homely feel

• Remove odour causing items such as cat litter trays and dirty pet bedding
