movewithus works to calm industry HIP fears

This month saw another announcement from the Government on Home Information Packs (HIPs). Government critics were quick to jump on the bandwagon and infer a ‘backtrack’ on HIPs but movewithus has been working hard to reassure agents that the announcement simply means ‘more of the same’.

The announcement, by the Department for Communities and Local Government, stated that the current amendments to the HIP legislation, allowing a property to be marketed after a HIP has been commissioned, will be extended to the end of the year. With no changes to the HIP legislation until January 2009, we’ve been honing our current service.

Agents can now offer their clients a nine month deferred payment for their HIPs and receive instant confirmation on the phone. It means commissioning a HIP is more efficient and secure and homes can be put on the market faster.

We’ve even turned HIPs into a revenue generating tool. By commissioning a movewithus HIP, agents can also make substantial revenues through conveyancing.

Sylvia Giles, movewithus HIP director, commented: “Conveyancing and HIPs go hand in hand and our staff are skilled in convincing vendors of the benefits of using both services. Every time a joint instruction is commissioned, the agent is paid a fee.”

Peter Lane and Partners, a Cambridgeshire-based agent, has been taking advantage.

Founder director Peter Lane said: “As well as concentrating on making sure vendors are motivated to sell and prices are right, we’ve been selling add-ons to control the sales process and generate additional revenue. During April, we received a healthy income from HIPs and conveyancing as well as our best mortgage month of the year.”
