Millions of consumers had a nasty new year shock as npower, the UK’s fourth largest energy provider, raised its rates by 12.7% for electricity and 17.2% for gas. According to npower, the move was a reaction to “soaring wholesale energy costs”.
It’s no secret that food and energy prices are rising. The scarcity of North Sea gas and the soaring price of oil – currently at around $100 per barrel – mean that prices will probably continue to rise in the foreseeable future.
It’s thought that most energy providers will be quick to follow npower’s lead. Many companies have already raised the price of their capped deals but there are some deals still out there that offer good savings and no charges if the customer wishes to leave. movewithus are urging their member agents to take advantage of their ‘Switch’ service; part of Online Office.
Nigel Higgins, founding director at movewithus, said: “Switch is a great way for agents to take advantage of the npower hikes before the rest of the industry follow suit. All the agent needs to do is direct their customers to the Switch section of their website. The customer fills out a simple form and movewithus perform a free search for a cheaper provider. The agent earns a commission if the Switch is completed.”
