St.Ives-based property specialist movewithus has been getting in the festive spirit by donating a £1000 stocking filler to two local non-profit organisations. The Mid-Anglia General Practitioner Accident Service (MAGPAS), a volunteer ambulance service and the Huntingdon Olympic Gym Club (HOGC), a gymnastics club for local athletes, were each given a cheque for £500 by the movewithus staff committee.
Each year, movewithus nominate and vote for local organisations in the Cambridgeshire area to be the recipients of the donation. All monies earned from various staff fundraising initiatives contribute to a ‘charity pot’ which is donated at Christmas.
MAGPAS train and equip local volunteers to work in conjunction with the ambulance services to provide a first responder service for residents in remote locations across the region where ambulances might take a little longer to arrive. Their quick response time has helped save many lives. Their doctors and paramedics are also the life saving team on the air ambulance.
Christian Morris, fundraising manager at MAGPAS, said: “On behalf of all our volunteers I would like to thank everyone at movewithus for supporting MAGPAS. Our charity relies solely on donations and fundraising so this money will make a real difference to people’s lives locally.”
Founded 28 years ago, the HOGC has grown to become a local institution, giving upcoming young gymnasts the chance to train under internationally accredited coaches in preparation for the 2012 London Olympics. Athletes trained at the gym regularly compete in international competitions, earning the HOGC an elite reputation across the country. Four gymnasts are currently being considered for the GB team competing at next year’s Beijing Olympics.
Erica Mackenzie, secretary at HOGC, commented: “We are honoured that movewithus has chosen us as their charity of the year and are very grateful for this donation which indicates the support of the local community. We have a long way to go towards our goal of a new facility but movewithus’ donation will help us get there that much quicker.”
Caroline Hart, movewithus people director, added: “Giving staff the ability to donate to a charity of their choosing means they can donate a large sum of money to a cause which has personally affected them in the past or they have some special connection to. It’s all about raising awareness of local charities who affect the lives of local people. Our company was founded in this area and we feel that it is only right for us to give something back”
