Conveyancing is all the legal parts involved in moving house that your solicitor will undertake. It can be confusing understanding all the legal jargon but part of your solicitor’s job is to explain it to you in plain English. Below is a quick run-down of what your solicitor will do during the conveyancing and completion stages of selling your house:

Agreement of sale

Once you have agreed the sale your solicitor will find the title deeds, organise the contract, get a figure for the balance of your mortgage and try to arrange a completion date.

Exchange of contracts

This is the point of no return, whereby neither party can back out, so it’s an exciting step. At this stage your solicitor will give the deed of transfer the go-ahead and draft a final settlement as well as obtaining the deposit and the balance of funds required

Completion

This is the exciting bit where your house is finally sold and you can heave a huge sigh of relief. During this stage your solicitor will pay the mortgage, send the deeds to the buyers and most importantly transfer the rest of the money for your house to you.
