War Horse boosts local economySteven Spielberg’s epic War Horse is tipped to boost the economy of Iddlesleigh, rural Devon. Spielberg’s War Horse translates Michael Morpurgo’s children’s’ book to the silver screen following Joey, a headstrong stallion who is cared for by 15 year old farm boy, Albert. The story takes Joey from the picturesque, idyllic lifestyle of Devon through the atrocities of the First World War, before heading back for some more countryside action. It would seem Spielberg and his writers (Richard Curtis and Lee Hall, author of Billy Elliot, no less!) did such an impressive job conveying the heavenly lifestyle of Devon, that Iddlesleigh is bracing itself for an influx of visitors. Armed with only 20 houses and one pub, The Duke of York, residents are sure to have their hands full.
